Johann
Jerling studied Physiology and Psychology at Stellenbosch University
and went on to complete a PhD in Nutrition at Potchefstroom University.
He spent two years working in the food industry in the Netherlands
before returning to Potchefstroom where he now leads a team of scientists
focussing on the biofunctionality of foods at the North-West University.
He has a wide range of academic interests including functional foods,
evidence based nutrition, polyphenols, blood clotting and more recently
micronutrient bioavailability. Johann is chairperson of the South
African Nutrition Society, serves on a number of advisory panels
and is one of the two directors of the African Nutrition Leadership
Programme.
