Prof Labadarios is the Head of the Department of Human Nutrition of the Stellenbosch University and the Tygerberg Academic Hospital. Prof Labadarios has developed and currently holds the directorships of the African Micronutrient Research Group, the Nutrition Support Team of the Tygerberg Academic Hospital and the Nutrition Information Centre at the University of Stellenbosch (NICUS). He is the author/co-author of more than 220 scientific publications. Prof Labadarios has also co-authored the books "Pocket Manual of Clinical Nutrition" and “Clinical Nutrition: Early intervention”. Prof Labadarios has been awarded the Poliomyelitis Research Prize, the WF Rabe Award for exceptional achievement in Medicine, the F D du Toit van Zijl Research Medallion of the University of Stellenbosch, and the Albert Strating prize for Preventive Medicine of the South African Academy of Science and Arts. Prof Labadarios is an elected Fellow of the American College of Nutrition, Honorary Associate Professor in the University of Crete, Greece, and an elected member of the JM Kinney International Award Committee in Nutrition Research. Prof Labadarios is currently the elected chairman of the Information Technology for the Advancement of Nutrition in Africa (ITANA), a scientific society, which aims to establish networks among African nutrition professionals. He is the African Editor of "Nutrition: The International Journal of Nutritional Sciences" and also serves on the Editorial Boards of the "Journal of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition" and is the co-Editor of the micronutrient section of “Current Opinion in Clinical Nutrition and Metabolic Care".
