For the last year and a half ADSA (Association for Dietetics in South Africa) has been without an official journal. After the termination of the South African Journal of Food Science and Nutrition, a needs assessment was done among members of ADSA, the Nutrition Society of South Africa (NSSA) and the South African Association of Food Science and Technology. The findings of the needs assessment indicated that the option of amalgamation with an existing journal should be investigated. An invitation to discuss the possibility of amalgamation / incorporation of the SA Journal of Food Science and Nutrition with the South African Journal of Clinical Nutrition had been received earlier from SASPEN. In 1999 a number of successful meetings took place to discuss the possibility and process of such an amalgamation/incorporation with the SAJCN. A new editorial policy and guidelines for sponsorship/advertising were drafted and negotiated to meet the mission, vision, values and needs of ADSA, SASPEN and NSSA. ADSA’s final decision to adopt the SAJCN was taken at the Executive Committee meeting held on 24/25 November 1999. ADSA would like to thank SASPEN and the Editors of the SAJCN and the SAMJ for accommodating our needs.
